Tips for Using Elluminate

  • Live Instruction. Mentors and students could meet synchronously, share, and exchange ideas all in real-time. It fosters collaboration, encourages communication, and eliminates the barrier of distance.
  • Asynchronous Content Development. Mentors and staff can record student orientations, PLA and DP workshops, information sessions, or even lectures for students to view if they missed a session or to reinforce knowledge. The record/playback feature allow students to view recordings repeatedly as long as they have the link provided by the moderator.
  • Tutoring Programs. Can be used as a tutoring platform for student support in Academic Writing and Workshops. Sessions can be scheduled synchronously and students can receive immediate feedback via screen sharing option with homework and other assignments. It is especially useful for students who cannot commute to location.
  • Meetings. At ESC, All Areas of Study (AAOS) conference is held via Elluminate, significantly reducing cost and travel time. It can also be used to facilitate workshops and Center meetings, if the weather is bad. It is especially useful for committees/sub-committees group to meet and discuss various agendas/minutes pertaining to teaching, research, and student learning.
  • Virtual Office Hours. Mentors can host virtual office hours over Elluminate instead of meeting face-to-face.
  • Remote Guest Speakers. Mentors can collaborate or invite guest speakers via Elluminate to share of their best practices. This enables students to hear from experts in the field and to foster intellectual exchanges across the board.
  • Professional Development. For cost-effective measures, faculty development, professional staff, and support staff meetings could be facilitated via Elluminate at ESC. Real time recording sessions allow mentors and staff to connect best practices with other Centers and CDL. Plus, if mentors or staff missed a session, they could view the recordings via Elluminate.
